As a therapist, Laura is here only to guide and assist you in creating an environment in which YOU can begin to heal. Your own brain, body and mind are the ultimate healers.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ strategy to therapy and that’s why we offer a range of treatments and why every treatment is tailored to each person’s individual needs.

This can be a slow or a fast process and depends on the individual client and THEIR history.

Laura is willing to put time and energy into helping you figure out the WHY to your issue. Helping you get to the root cause provides much longer lasting results.

What can I expect during my session?

Pain, Performance and Injury Clinic, Scar Work, Cupping Therapy and Emotional Freedom Technique:

Initial Consultation Sessions include a detailed history intake of all your past medical and injury history, past and current lifestyle habits followed by a detailed assessment which helps formulate the best course of treatment to progress with helping you work towards your long-term goal.

Subsequent Sessions follow on from the initial consultation and treatment session. We discuss how things have been since the last session, how compliant you have been with any corrective homework assigned, re-assess and formulate how best to progress on with the treatment.

Sport & Deep Tissue, Hot Stone & Therapeutic Massage:

Sessions include a history intake of all your past medical and injury history, past and current lifestyle habits followed by an assessment which helps formulate the best course of treatment to progress with helping you work towards your goals.

I have a medical condition; will this prohibit me from treatment?

No, not necessarily, however, if you are unsure, contact us to discuss your condition and we can advise whether you should seek approval from your GP prior to the commencement of any treatment.

What should I wear?

It is ideal to wear loose comfortable, stretchy or easily moveable garments that do not restrict movement. Please DO NOT wear denim or jeans. Depending on the treatment session you may be asked to remove clothing down to your underwear – only if you are comfortable with this! If you are down to underwear only during treatment sessions, then please be considerate and DO NOT wear thongs or minimal underwear. The Therapist will always ensure your modesty is kept intact.

How will I feel after my session? Does it hurt? Are you sore after it?

Every person is different, and no two people respond the same way. Usually, most people feel an improvement in their symptoms. Some people do not notice any immediate changes after the session, but then after 24-48 hours, they begin to feel a difference in their symptoms. And for a few their symptoms can sometimes feel worse, especially if there has been a long-term weakness in a structure.

Whether good, bad or indifferent, the body and brain require time to process changes and adjust, healing times vary greatly from person to person. Some people respond quicker than others. Many factors will influence how the body responds such as how long they have had their symptoms, their past medical and injury history, underlying medical conditions, stress levels, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep habits, mindset, etc.

With any manual therapy technique, you may experience some mild tenderness or discomfort in areas that have been worked on and this usually subsides within 24-48hours. Marks left on the skin from Cupping Therapy can remain visible for a period of 5 days up to 10 + days.

Emotional work can leave you feeling a little drained energy-wise, may affect your moods and emotions and leave you feeling a little up and down for a day or two. It may have the opposite effect and leave you buzzing with energy.

Either way however you respond be kind to your self and take things easy for 24-48 hours afterwards.

How long should I wait between sessions?

Pain, Performance and Injury Clinic:

This will have been discussed in session during your initial consultation and treatment.

Most likely you will have been asked to attend back for a follow-up session within 1-2 weeks with any other sessions required being longer between each.

Scar Work:

This depends on what YOU feel you need. Sessions can be scheduled anywhere from 4-5 days after the initial session up to weeks or months between sessions. There is no right or wrong answer to this.

Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping):

This depends on what YOU feel you need. How intense or disruptive the issue is to your everyday life. Some people like to have sessions weekly while others prefer sessions monthly or even longer apart. There is no right or wrong answer to this.

Sport & Deep Tissue, Hot Stone & Therapeutic Massage:

This depends on what YOU feel your body needs. If you sit for long periods, have a stressful lifestyle, physically demanding job, train regularly or competitively then you may find you need to come back regularly. What regularly is to YOU will be different to someone else.

Why do I have to do exercises, stretches or self-massage?

Self-Care Assistance Plans may be assigned to help you integrate the work that has been done in session. This may include things such as relaxation exercise, self-massage/release techniques, strengthening or activation exercises, mindfulness tools, breathing exercises, etc. This helps your body re-establish lost connections, relax overworked structures and restore optimal function and feeling.

They are aids which help YOU to be in control of your health and wellbeing. This can help speed up recovery and reduce the number of sessions that may be required. When we have tools and techniques, we can implement which help us manage pain and restriction it helps us feel more empowered and confident. We will always explain the rationale behind why we are assigning any self-care assistance.

Is there on-site parking?

Yes, on-site FREE parking.

Please note that the car park is located next to Touch Primary School and therefore may experience congestion at peak times of drop off and pick up (approx. 9am and 3pm)

What if I am unsure what type of treatment to book?

We understand how confusing the therapy world can be, after all, there are so many different styles and modalities out there, and we know that all you want is to feel better! So, if you are struggling to navigate and understand what the best type of therapy is for YOU get in touch with us to discuss your symptoms and we can advise from experience what we feel may be the best therapy to try first.

We also know from experience that no two people are the same and no one therapy works for all. Sometimes a combination of therapies works best. Which is why we offer a range of therapies. And if what we offer is not going to be the best suited for you to start with, we can signpost you to other professionals/therapists we feel will help you better.
