Injury, Pain & Performance

Combining various modalities & techniques to assess and address the cause of pain, not the symptoms, whether of an acute or chronic nature.

When tissue damage occurs, regardless of the mechanism of injury, your body, to protect itself and keep it functioning to the best of its ability will look for ways to reduce risk as much as possible.

These measures are provided by your nervous system. From having interpreted all the sensory information provided by your internal and external environment and decided what that information means… DANGER or THREAT!

Risk reduction can come in many different forms such as:

  • increased inflammation
  • reduced range of motion
  • shutting off or inhibiting certain structures
  • forcing other structures to become overworked – compensatory movement patterns
  • pain
  • loss of power & strength

This is all done to keep you SAFE and allow the tissue time to heal. Different types of tissue will take different time frames to heal but they will all repair the damage by building new tissue. However, this tissue is created using scar tissue. You can read more about scar tissue and its affects on the body here.

By utilising various assessment protocols the therapist can evaluate which structures are shut off and which structures are overworking, revealing the sources of injury. Using a variety of techniques the therapist and client can begin retraining the client’s body and mind to remove the compensation patterns, reducing pain, improving movement and restoring a more optimal level of function to your whole system.

Treatment process and the amount of sessions required will vary from person to person due to the mechanism, severity and type of tissue damage that has occurred along with potential impact of compensatory patterns from past injuries or life events.
